FIFA Allows Rani Khedira to Play for Tunisia

FIFA's football court has approved the request of Union Berlin midfielder Rani Khedira to represent the Tunisia national team, as announced by the Tunisian Football Federation on Thursday. According to a statement released by the Tunisian Federation, 'The single judge of the Players' Status Chamber decided, based on the administrative procedures initiated by the Federation and in line with the clear and firm desire expressed by the player to defend the colors of Tunisia, to accept the request of the Tunisian Football Federation regarding the change of the player's association for Rani Khedira.' The statement added: 'The player is now immediately eligible to represent the national teams of the Tunisian Football Federation,' noting that 'the German, African, and European football associations have been officially informed of this decision.' Khedira, born in Stuttgart, Germany, on January 27, 1994, currently plays for Union Berlin since the 2021-2022 season, having previously played for Augsburg, Leipzig, and Stuttgart. This season, Khedira has played 26 matches across all competitions, scoring five goals and providing one assist. Internationally, Khedira has represented Germany at various youth levels but has never played for the senior national team, which makes him legally eligible to represent the 'Carthage Eagles.' The Tunisian Federation welcomed the player's addition in its statement, wishing him success and expressing pride in achieving this outcome. Khedira strengthens Tunisia's squad ahead of the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada, as they were drawn into Group F alongside the Netherlands, Japan, and the winner of the European playoff path between Ukraine, Sweden, Poland, and Albania.
