Jordan to Face Tunisia in Friendly Match

The Jordanian national team will face their Tunisian counterparts on Friday evening at the Olympic Stadium in the capital of Tunisia. This is an international friendly match as part of their preparations for the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, scheduled to take place in Doha from December 1 to 18. The Jordanian team, which has qualified for the World Cup finals for the first time in its history, will play a second friendly match next Tuesday against Mali. Jordan will play in Group C, which includes Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, and the winner of the match between Kuwait and Mauritania. Tunisia, on the other hand, will play in Group A alongside Qatar, the winner of the match between Syria and South Sudan, as well as Palestine and Libya. The Jordanian national team held their final training session at the Amman International Stadium on Tuesday evening with a full squad under the supervision of their Moroccan head coach, Jamal Salamih. "The Jordanian national team lacks experience against different types of teams," Salamih told AFP. "Tunisia has a strong team with many World Cup participations, and it is different from other African teams in terms of defensive strength and technical characteristics." He added, "We aim to gain experience from facing Tunisia and then Mali, which has players in strong leagues. Therefore, friendly matches are very important for us." Salamih recalled striker Mohammed Al-Aisan, the top scorer in the domestic league with 8 goals, after a period of absence. He also issued his first call-up to winger Tamer Benyato of West Bromwich Albion. Jordan and Tunisia have met three times before. Tunisia won the first match 4-0 in 1963 during the Arab Cup in Lebanon, and 5-0 in the second match in 1974 in a friendly tournament in Syria, while they drew 3-3 in the third friendly in 2011 in Amman. Jordan began its World Cup preparation in early September, playing two friendly matches against Russia (0-0) and the Dominican Republic (3-0). Last month, they also played two matches during a training camp in Turkey, where they lost to Bolivia (0-1) and Albania (2-4). Jordan was the first Arab team to secure its ticket to the finals of the World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada in early June last year, finishing second in Group C of the third round of Asian qualifiers behind South Korea. Tunisia, in turn, reached the World Cup finals for the seventh time in its history in early September last year by defeating host Equatorial Guinea 1-0 in the eighth round of Group Eight of the African qualifiers. Tunisia is also preparing for the African Nations Championship, scheduled to take place in Morocco from December 21 to January 18. The draw placed them in Group C alongside Uganda, Nigeria, and Tanzania.
