Sfaxien threatens to withdraw from Tunisian league over refereeing

The management of the Tunisian football club Sfaxien has announced its possible withdrawal from the national championship due to refereeing errors in the match against Esperance. The club has requested audio recordings and plans to file a complaint with the sports ministry.

According to media reports, the board of the Sfaxien sports club has dropped a bombshell by threatening to officially withdraw from the Tunisian league in protest against refereeing. Tunisian newspaper Assahifa reported: "Sfaxien club is threatening to withdraw from the Tunisian league due to refereeing errors against the team, after drawing 1-1 with Esperance in the 20th round of the Tunisian league." It added: "The Sfaxien club's management has decided to resign collectively, after submitting a request to the football federation asking for the release of audio recordings of conversations between the match referee and the video assistant referee team." It continued: "The management confirmed that it will file a complaint with Tunisia's Ministry of Youth and Sports regarding this match." The Tunisian newspaper stressed that the Sfaxien management believes there is a possibility of match-fixing in the result. It is worth noting that Esperance leads the Tunisian league table with 42 points, while Sfaxien is in fourth place with 36 points.
